The original font is compressed. I ignore that and paste my noncompressed 2bpp 8x16(?) font at $C6:D000, and adjust the ASM at $C1:CA17 to point to it.

Also, there wasn't enough room for the english script where the Japanese script was, so I also stuck my script in the $C6 bank. The pointer table has 16bit pointers, so I adjusted the "bank" byte with the ASM at $C0F3CB as marked below.

1. clean rom										start fresh
2. $C1/CA17 : #$00307F -> #$00D0C6					point text engine at my font in ROM
3. $C0/F3CB : A9 C7 00 -> A9 C6 00					change pointer table bank byte from $C7 to $C6
4. paste in script 2bpp font at $C6:D000			with crystal tile 2
5. reinsert script with atlas						done!
